Johnston's Riverview Farm House News!!

This weeks post won't be normal...Partly because it's not going to be about the farm,
but about our farmhouse!!

Yeah, yeah, I know it's not summer. This is the only picture I have that I like.
Besides, seeing a green picture might bring spring sooner!! :)

Projects of the week!
(A lot of cleaning, no fun!)

I do like cleaning, but not after BIG projects!

We finally put the finishing touches on the counter!!
Dad put on the beeeeaaautiful wood and trim!
It really made the dinning room look a LOT nicer!

Quick Tip!-  Did you know that olive oil gets rid of wood
scratches??

Before.

After.

Nice huh? :)
If it's a big scratch, you'll want to add a few coats, but let the olive oil dry before adding another coat.

 Going up!

I think all of you guys got a hint that I DON'T like pink.
I can tolerate it but I DON'T want pink walls. Guess what!
Pink walls going upstairs! Hehehehe. NOT!

Imagine you fell in love with a house and your looking around.
You stop at a door, wondering where it goes, you open it. Looking around with wide, eyes you put your hand to your mouth. Spinning on your heel you run away to go hurl.

Yup. My life. Ok, as normal, it's exaggerated a lot but it was awful! Just look at this picture!

Hurry run, before you hurl everywhere! I'll wait here.

Dodadodado, hum hum hum hum, la la la la
Your back? Want to look at it again?? :)

So anyways, My mom felt adventurous.
She was sick of the pink too.

 I don't blame her.
It took forever for anyone to go upstairs. Luckily, the bathroom was right around the corner. ;)
(Remember the hurling...I knew it would take you a while to get it!)
Man, I keep going on rabbit trails! Oh well, my blog is like one huge cattle trail.

To make a long story short, we peeled off a bazillion layers of wallpaper. They did not have very good taste in wallpaper.

After scraping and peeling we hit wood! Mom stained it with rosewood stain. It's so pretty now!!

      I'm drowning.............
In laundry!!!!

I have been making homemade laundry soap for about 4 months, maybe less.
It's way cheaper!! I was using the powder for a long time but, like yesterday I made the liquid and I LOVE it!! It's way better and cheaper than the powder, I think.

Liquid Laundry Soap

You'll need:
*A pot or bucket
*Spoon or something to stir with
*Empty jug
*Vinegar (optional.)
* Baking or washing soda
*Borax
*Castile soap
and
*Essential oil.

Fill your bucket with warm water.
Add:
1/3 c. Castile soap or less
1/4 c. Baking soda and Borax. (Measured separate.)
A splash of Vinegar (Optional.)
Add 10 drops of your favorite Essential oil

Mix together and pour into a jug. Use 1/3 c. per load.

(The castile soap I used was homemade. I'll post the recipe soon.)

WARNING!!
I made up this recipe. I don't go by recipes at all. I read one and then do my own measurements. So, here are a  link for a real recipe.

Homemade laundry hamper.
Ok, I really don't know whether I should feel proud or humiliated.

Presenting my Homemade Hamper.

Hey! I was desperate! And I HATE spending money, so It'll work.
I was using a big, round laundry basket, but I didn't like how much space it was taking so, yeah. :)

I mean, look at how nicely it fits!! :) No, it's not pink camo. I have no idea what it is. It was a old skirt.

How did I make it??
Give me a glue gun or a sewing machine and I can do wonders!
(That sounds really prideful.)

I found an old skirt and cut it in two pieces, grabbed a plastic, drawer, thingy. You all know what I mean! I think everyone has at lest one in their house.

 I flipped it upside down.
(The bottom had a opening but not the top. Very annoying.)
And hot glued the pieces of fabric to the sides that where open, and there, easy hamper!

I love doing laundry so I needed a proper hamper. Also, believe it or not, as I'm writing this I am waiting for the laundry to get done. Yes, I'm a weird one. :)

Well, comment on what was your craziest but useful craft!

God Bless You!!
